The student knows and recognizes the basic psychological mechanisms of the patient and his family functioning in disease relevant for the treatment process

KNOWLEDGE: in the frame of knowledge:

W1. understands the meaning of verbal and non-verbal communication in the process of communicating with patients and the idea of trust in the doctor-patient interactions

Attention will be paid to learn the rules:

• of interpersonal communication and basic sources of errors in communication

• about mechanisms to build a therapeutic relationship doctor-patient, with regard to the relationship with the child as a patient

• structuring and defining the purpose of the meeting

W2. understands the role of the family in the process of therapy, and in particular

• stages of human development and basic life tasks specific to the age and abilities of human development.

• systemic mechanisms of family functioning

• impact of the disease on the family system, the family as a support in difficult situations

W3. has knowledge on adjustment to disease as a difficult situation, stages of adaptation to threatening events and patients‘ needs, dying and mourning process of the family, concerning:

• the role of psychological factors in coping with the disease - resources of individual and interpersonal relationships,

• experiencing illness - aspects of cognitive and emotional accompaniment terminal disease,

• mourning - stages of grief, mourning unfinished, assistance in case of losses.

• psychological mechanisms related to the situation of death and dying - family situation, when one of its members suffers from a terminal illness and death situation.

W4. knows the role of stress in etiopathogenesis and course of diseases and identifies stress management mechanisms. Recognize issues:

• the concept of stress and its impact on health

• mechanisms for coping with stress, processes, styles and coping strategies and defense mechanisms

• disease as a crisis - the concept of psychological crisis

W5 knows principles of motivating patients to pro-healthy behavior and of communicating poor prognosis, in particular:

• analysis of the process of change and the use of techniques to motivate for change

• motivation to cooperation in the treatment / recovery,

• principles to assist in the process of modifications to the preferred behavior.



Efekty kształcenia:

(tylko po angielsku) In the frame of skills is able to:

U1. build a atmosphere of complete trust throughout the whole therapeutic process and uses:

• understanding the mechanisms of psychosocial functioning of the patient and his family

• skills of careful observation verbal and non-verbal aspects of contact with another person,

• control their own behavior, emotional reactions, and other non-verbal

• the ability to apply adequate psychological interventions

U2. take steps to improve the quality of life of the patient to prevent its deterioration in the future:

• trying to talk in a way to motivate healthy changes that a person can enter

• recognizes the state of readiness to change

• recognizes the difficulties in the implementation of changes

U3 carry out conversation with an adult patient, a child, family applying the techniques of active listening and empathy, and discuss with the patient his or her life situation, by means of:

• knowledge about the stages of human development

• adequate assessment in choosing the style of conversation

• knowledge about psychosocial determinants of health

U4. inform a patient about the purpose, course and potential risks associated with the proposed diagnostic or therapeutic procedures and obtain the patient‘s informed consent, taking into account:

• mental and physical condition of the patient,

• needs of the patient regarding emotional support and information they need,

• the time required to make a decision

U5 communicate to the patient or his family information on poor prognosis, taking into account:

• mental and physical condition of the patient,

• needs of the patient regarding emotional support and information they need,

• the ability to plan further medical activities and other issues important for the patient

U6. uses at the basic level psychological motivation and supporting intervention:

• recognize the emotions experienced by the patient

• understand the behavior of the patient and his needs

• establish a relationship aimed at improving the condition of life and suggest further support actions

U7 - communicate with team members, give a constructive feedback and support, with a view to:

• need to practice listening skills

• adopting a posture of negotiating and seeking common goals and cooperation opportunities
