Cele kształcenia: | The course focuses on structures, institutions, actors and processes influencing the decision-making in modern political systems. The aim of the course is to provide the analytical knowledge in order to understand comparative politics. During the course the most important terms and concepts will be discussed, the theoretical framework will be illustrated with examples from worldwide politics. |

Efekty kształcenia: | Knowledge - graduate of the course: • understands what Comparative Politics is • knows paradigms and research methods typical of Comparative Politics • knows the basic features of democratic and authoritarian regimes and understands the threats of modern democracies • knows the structures, institutions and political actors involved in the creation of state policy • understands the political processes taking place in modern political systems Skills - graduate of the course: • can identify institutions and actors involved in the political decision-making process • can use the knowledge of Compartive Politics to identify the problems of modern countries and discuss how to solve them • can make a critical analysis of existing research and literature in the field of Comparative Politics • is able to participate in scientific discourse in the field of Comparative Politics, formulate their own views, cite adequate arguments Competences - graduate of the course: • is ready to analyze scientific achievements critically and to undertake scientific polemics • is ready to recognize the importance of knowledge in the field of functioning of democratic regimes (based on free elections, representation and participation as well as the freedom of the political parties’ action) in solving the problems of modern democracies |

Forma i warunki zaliczenia: | Participants are obliged to attend classes and to keep up with the required readings, to take part in discussions and to argue their stances (evaluated after each class) (60 %) and to prepare an oral presentation (40%). |

Metody sprawdzania i kryteria oceny efektów kształcenia uzyskanych przez studentów: | • continuous assessment based on active participation in classes, taking part in discussions, knowing of the subject literature, • preparation and presentation of an oral presentation on a topic agreed with the person offering the classes (during the evaluation of the presentation it will be taken into account: the ability to acquire and analyse information, the usage of the acquired knowledge, as well as the ability to formulate opinions). |
