  • roczny wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się dla danego etapu studiów wynosi 1500-1800 h, co odpowiada 60 ECTS;
  • tygodniowy wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta wynosi 45 h;
  • 1 punkt ECTS odpowiada 25-30 godzinom pracy studenta potrzebnej do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się;
  • tygodniowy nakład pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się pozwala uzyskać 1,5 ECTS;
  • nakład pracy potrzebny do zaliczenia przedmiotu, któremu przypisano 3 ECTS, stanowi 10% semestralnego obciążenia studenta.

Cele kształcenia:

(tylko po angielsku) Main goal of this course is to present and explain the practical sides of methodology with a particular focus on selected methods and techniques of empirical research productive in the context of social sciences and political knowledge. By presenting and testing possible wide range of popular methodological tools, the course is aiming at developing among students a considerate approach to both quantitative and qualitative techniques of collecting, analyzing and interpreting social / textual data, with combined methodological rules as expected in social sciences.

Efekty kształcenia:

(tylko po angielsku) Students will have basic orientation and methodological knowledge required in social sciences. They will know the terminology and main methodological categories, together with competence in their application. They will also be able to prepare and conduct critical analysis of social problems and processes, by properly selected sources and by applying appropriate research methods. They should also be able to analyse the causes and the course of social processes or phenomena, formulate own opinions on the subject, and make research hypotheses, as well as verify them. Finally, they will have competence to organise their approach in order to design a good empirical project of research.

Wymagania wstępne:

(tylko po angielsku) Participants of this course should be able to write and speak English at the level sufficient for analytical purposes, as well as for discussing theoretical and methodological problems of social sciences.

Forma i warunki zaliczenia:

(tylko po angielsku) Basic requirements of passing the course include session attendance and active involvement, proved by accomplishing 2 written practical assignments. No exam is planned but points system.

Metody sprawdzania i kryteria oceny efektów kształcenia uzyskanych przez studentów:

(tylko po angielsku) Assessment of students' participation and active involvement in the course. Assessment of the quality of the written assignments.

The highest grades may be obtained only by respecting deadlines for assignments, as much as by high quality of involvement. Every student shall receive points for every element.

Bilans punktów ECTS:

(tylko po angielsku) The total of 4 ECTS are broken in the following way:

1,3 ECTS: course attendance (30 hours),

1 ECTS: reading and studying (40 hours)

1,7 ECTS: individual and group work on research tool design, preparing and accomplishing four written assignments (50 hours)

This course is presenting and critically discussing knowledge about research design patterns, methods and techniques. It has both theoretical and practical dimensions, offering opportunities to prepare and carry out exemplary designs of social research. Students are offered both qualitative and quantitative models of data collection and analysis, as well as thought how to interpret and critically evaluate findings.

This course is presenting and critically discussing knowledge about research design requirements, focusing on methods and techniques. It has both theoretical and practical dimensions, offering opportunities to prepare and carry out exemplary designs of social research. Students are offered both qualitative and quantitative models of data collection and analysis, as well as thought how to interpret and critically evaluate their findings. The course is structured into 15 sessions of the following core topics: Introduction to methodology of social sciences; Thinking like a researchers - research project design; Different research strategies and paradigms; Going back to Cartesius - Discourse on the Method; Cycles and data collection methods; Grounded theory; Coding, labelling and categorisation of data; Interviewing and survey research; Content analysis - quantitative traditional model; qualitative content analysis and thematic analysis; Coding and categorisation of data; Discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis; Narrative analysis; Choosing optimal strategy for research.
