[BT2K_U01, P2A_U01] is capable to use different microscopic technics


[BT2K_K01, P2A_K01, P2A_K05, Bt2K_K02, P2A_K01], student can ask question; participate in discussions on course topics


[BT2K_U02, P2A_U02]- student can use available sources of information and read them with understanding, while preparing course


[BT2K_W01, BT2K_W04, BT2K_W07]- is capable of formulating basic questions concerning mutual interrelations between various mediators of the interactions between the cells and their microenvironment in ontogenesis and pathogenesis, in particular during cancer promotion and progression .


[BT2K_K01, BT2K_K02]- is conscious of the need for monitoring and following the progress of the knowledge on basic aspects of cell motility, intercellular communication and accepts the necessity of the critical (reserved) look on their daily coverage in media.

Molecular Biotechnology

The course reviews selectedmodern methods used in cell biology

Pełny opis: (tylko po angielsku)

The course includes:

1. Principles of fluorescence microscopy, digital imaging and automatic microscopes and their practical use – Leica DM IRE2 fluorescence microscope equipped with Leica DC350 FX cooled-CCD camera (Fluorescence microscopy. Image capture technology based on digital camera systems with charge-coupled devices (CCD) in modern optical microscopy. Collecting high quality digital images with low noise and high sensitivity. Practical use of a camera controlled by software that allows collecting, organizing, and correcting digital images with Leica DM IRE2 automatic fluorescence microscope equipped with Leica DC350 FX cooled-CCD camera)

2. Principles and practical use of fluorescence procedures for actin and tubulin cytoskeleton staining in fixed cells. Differences in cytoskeleton organization in normal and cancer cells. Nocodazole, cytochalasins and phalloidin as agents affecting cytoskeleton organization and their use in molecular biology (staining Actin Filaments with Fluorescent-Phalloidin. Immunofluorescence. Differences in cytoskeleton organization in normal and cancer cells.

3. Practical using the methods based on the computer-aided analysis of time lapsevideo recordings made with a CCD camera to examine biological processes (cell migration).

4. Intercellular exchange of regulatory signals and principles of its regulation. Functions of connexins and gap junctions: their role in homeostasis and pathology with special emphasis to cancer.

5. harvesting of bone marrow (BM) tissue form murine bone cavities and its futher processing for fluorescent immunolabelling. BM- derived cells will be stained against specific antigens characterizing selected stem cell (SC) populations that will be eventually identified by multicolor flow cytometry.
