The goal of the course is to give a knowledge about water cycle in catchments located in high mountains areas
- student knows unique features of the catchments (glaciated, non-glaciated and partly glaciated) located in high mountains areas and features distinguishing them from other catchments (Geogr_II: K_W02)
- knows methods of obtaining hydrological information (Geogr_II: K_W03)
- knows and understands the reasons of regional differences in hydrographic global and regional; understanding of watershed processes, water cycle including precipitation, infiltration, runoff, streamflow, evapotranspiration and changes in storage (Geogr_II: K_W05)
- the course provides knowledge of the functioning of the high mountains basin (rivers, glaciers) and prepares for the skilful and rational use of water resources in accordance with sustainable development of the high mountain areas, gives knowledge about processes in glacier systems located in all climatic zones and their role in the hydrological system and environmental changes (Geogr_II: K_W07)
- student knows the role of water (in liquid and solid forms) in natural environment in high mountain catchment; is able to identify the elements that influence the geographical environment to the greatest extent the nature of water circulation within the basin and alpine rivers to understand the impact on other processes in this environment; student has a competence in assessment of environmental change due to human impact and understands global issues such as climate change and sea-level rise, and also impact of glaciers on human activity

- identifies and assess the water resources of river basins, and can point the way of rational use of water resources in accordance with the natural environment at local, regional and global, can identify factors affecting the status of water; has a knowledge in watershed management according to natural environment protection; student is able to use this knowledge in order to determine both benefits and risks and natural hazards in catchments located in high mountains areas (Geogr_II: K_U01)

writing exam – after credit with a seminars
-one day field trip in the Tatra Mountains (costs of travel and entrance to the national park - by your own)
-possibility of individual consultation twice a week
