Efekty kształcenia: | (tylko po angielsku) The aim of the module is - familiarize students with rules of information evaluation relating to the treatment, diagnosis and prognosis - encourage to critical thinking and acquire the skills needed for independent learning and practice in the spirit of EBM After completion of the course the student: in the frame of knowledge: - defines the concept of EBM - explains the principles and philosophy of practicing medicine in the spirit of EBM - is familiar with the reliability criteria of clinical research and the measure force effect of an intervention - knows the types of observational and intervention studies and the way to conduct them - knows who and why is preparing guidelines for clinical practice management and the principles of their formation and classification of recommendations - knows the basics of biostatistics - knows the phases of clinical trials, how the process of registration and drugs reimbursement look like in the frame of skills: - can formulate in details the clinical problem from various fields of clinical medicine - efficient uses the sources of information relating to the clinical sciences, including databases - evaluate the reliability of information on the treatment, diagnosis and treatment contained in a medical publication - estimates the size of the therapeutic effect - knows how to define the relationship between the intervention and the effect - distinguishes the risk factors from the prognostic factors - knows how to relate the results of a clinical trial for a specific clinical situation - knows the rules of conduct of systematic reviews as well as meta-analyzes and assesses the results - selects the proper statistical methods for clinical trials - can distinguish the statistical significance from clinical - is able to critically evaluate the original article of clinical medicine in the frame of social competence: - collaborate with the group analyzing clinical problem based on the available literature - is aware of the benefits and risks of EBM use in decisions about funding of medical procedures and advertising of pharmaceutical companies producing medical equipment and reagents - is aware of the need to systematically amend and update the knowledge of medicine and its methodology |

Metody sprawdzania i kryteria oceny efektów kształcenia uzyskanych przez studentów: | (tylko po angielsku) Grading. EBM part: 15 multiple-choice questions with one correct answer (out of 5: answers A-E), 15 min, 20 points Biostatistics part: 10 multiple-choice questions with one correct answer (out of 5: answers A-E), 10 min, 7 points 2 practical exercises, 50 min, 8 points Total score: 30sc Minimum number of points to pass the course: 16 score grade 16 – 18.5 3.0 19 – 21.5 3.5 22 – 24.5 4.0 25 – 27.5 4.5 28 – 30 5.0 |

Metody dydaktyczne: | (tylko po angielsku) The basic idea is activating students through familiar them with tools and skills for self-gaining information and its critical evaluation. In addition, on examples from various fields of medicine they learn the applicability of EBM in clinical practice. |

(tylko po angielsku) 1. The philosophy of EBM; Formulating precise questions relating to specific clinical problems, on which can be found a clear answer; 2. Types of clinical trials, concepts related to research methodology, types of research plans (parallel, crossover, factorial), clinically relevant and substitute endpoints; studies reliability criteria for the treatment 3. Practical evaluation of the reliability studies for the treatment and prognosis and assessment of effect of the intervention; The clinical significance 4. Observational studies, methodology, critical analysis of research on the prediction; reporting of observational studies (STROBE) 5. Basic knowledge about statistical analysis of data, statistical significance, and tests used in the biomedical sciences. 6. Criteria of credibility of meta-analyzes and systematic reviews and practical evaluation of the reliability of systematic reviews and meta-analyzes and their results 7. The guidelines, concepts and assess their credibility, AGREE, GRADE 8. Quickly and efficiently finding reliable information needed in everyday practice; available databases and methods of gathering information from them, including Medline, Cochrane Library, etc.; building a simple search strategy; programs to find and organize references; 9. Conducting clinical trials - basic information and examples, Phase 1-4; registration of drugs, EMA, FDA, reimbursement of medicines, pharmacoeconomics, HTA analysis 10.
