Wymagania wstępne: | (tylko po angielsku) Knowledge base of the following Metabolic Diseases subjects will be foundational for the rotation: Anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the pancreas; physiology of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism; pathophysiology of obesity and osteoporosis. Students are expected to have the ability to take medical histories and perform physical examinations of patients. |

Forma i warunki zaliczenia: | (tylko po angielsku) Participation in all seminars and clinical duties is required. The condition for passing is attendance of all classes. A formal-end-of-rotation test including 20 questions will require a pass rate of 60%. |

Metody sprawdzania i kryteria oceny efektów kształcenia uzyskanych przez studentów: | (tylko po angielsku) Metabolic diseases: Daily assessment by a clinical preceptor of the student’s knowledge on the etiology, clinical manifestations, and principles of diagnosis and management of metabolic diseases (with a particular emphasis on diabetes) will occur on the wards and in clinics. An end-of-rotation formal written examination will take place. |

Metody dydaktyczne: | (tylko po angielsku) Analysis of clinical cases will be performed through clinical exercises at the patient bedside and in outpatient clinics, including the insulin pump clinic and the diabetic foot clinic. Demonstrations on the use of insulin pens and glucometers will also occur. Practical exercises aimed at diagnosing chronic complications of diabetes will be conducted |

(tylko po angielsku) Schedule: Seminars -10 hours (5 classes, each of them 2 hours) 1. Seminar 1 – Classification, diagnosis and clinical features of diabetes. 2. Seminar 2 – Treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. 3. Seminar 3 - Chronic complications of diabetes. 4. Seminar 4 - Acute complications of diabetes. Diabetic ketoacidosis. 5. Seminar 5 – Other metabolic diseases - Familial hypercholesterolemia, Obesity, Gaucher Disease. Bedside teaching – 110 hours 1. Newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes - diagnosis and treatment. 2. Newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes - diagnosis and treatment of ketoacidosis. 3. Monogenic diabetes. 4. Intensification of treatment in type 2 diabetes. 5. Implementation of insulin therapy in type 2 diabetes. 6. Combination therapy in type 2 diabetes mellitus. 7. Intensive insulin therapy in type 1 diabetes mellitus. 8. Treatment with a personal insulin pump. Systems for continuous glycemic monitoring. 9. A patient with diabetes and coronary disease. 10. A patient with advanced microvascular complications of diabetes. 11. Diabetic foot syndrome. 12. Secondary diabetes, diagnostics and treatment. 13. Lipid disorders and treatment. 14. Management of patients with diabetes in clinical practice- prophylaxis of chronic complications, treatment of comorbidities. |
