TOPIC 2:

Brief history of law: law in ancient times; Roman law and its basic components; legal systems of feudal states; reception of Roman law in continental Europe; European and American law in 18th and 19th centuries; major changes and shifts in the 20th century; birth of international law;

TOPIC 3:

Legal norms and sources of international law: types of legal norms occurring in Europe and the United States; basic differences in the sources of law; sources of international law; hierarchy of sources of international law; customary norms;

TOPIC 4:

Creation of international law: theoretical differences between American and European way of creating legal norms; the legislative process in various contemporary states; role of the judge-made law; creation of international legal norms; custom in current international law, international agreement;

TOPIC 5:

Subjects of international law: the states and their legal role; states in international relations; other subjects of international law; current developments in the status of subjects of international law;

TOPIC 6:

Persons in international law: international community and its role; citizenship; international flow of people, extradition and asylum; stateless persons; current problems of individuals from the perspective of international law;

TOPIC 7:

Territory in international law: state territory and legal outcomes; state borders – natural and artificial; international law of sea; international aerial law; international space law;

TOPIC 8:

Diplomatic and consular law: diplomatic mission; privileges and diplomatic immunities; consular relations; current legal developments in diplomatic and consular law;

TOPIC 9:

International organizations: historical growth of international organizations; regional organizations; law as the basis of international relations from the perspective of international organizations;

TOPIC 10:

Dispute resolution in international law: source of international disputes; negotiations; mediation; conciliation; arbitration; international courts and tribunals and their role;
